Life’s A Beach But Would You Bathe In Its Seas?

FOREO’s biggest cleansing experiment reveals why you need to prioritize skincare this summer at the seaside.

Unless you’re a red cartoon crab sporting a Jamaican accent, you might be right to be wary of spending too much time “Under the Sea” — not only can excessive sea salt dry out your skin, but there are also many other harmful culprits lurking in the deep blue.

Scarier Than Jaws

Did you know that even some of the most beautiful beaches are harboring horrifying secrets? From flesh-eating bacteria and parasites to human waste, none of which are skin-friendly in the slightest.

In hopes to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness, and in our excitement for LUNA 3’s launch, FOREO decided to conduct the world’s biggest cleansing experiment.

Here’s what we found floating around at our saltwater beaches:

“Given that the ocean holds 96.5% of the Earth’s water, it was truly a surprise for us to (…) discover that most of the seas we swim in each summer are so polluted. There’s never been a better time to cleanse.” Dalia Fernandez, FOREO’s Product Development Manager.

With this research, Fernandez wished to highlight the importance of post-beach skincare, stating that: “even when we feel refreshed jumping in and out of the sea on a hot day; you could well be coming out of the water dirtier than when you went in.”

Better Safe Than Sorry

If there were ever a time to step up your post-beach skincare game, it would be now. A study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology found that people who swam in the ocean had an 86% greater chance of getting sick than those who did not enter the water. If this bacteria can make you sick, imagine the damage that it’s doing to your skin.

But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean we’re telling you to give up on your Summer fun. We’re just encouraging you to give your skin a little extra post-beach TLC after saltwater exposure. In fact, the just-launched LUNA 3 cleansing device is the perfect beach bag essential and provides a thought-free cleansing solution to suit every skin type all summer long for a great after beach skincare routine.
