If you Google “freckles”, you see tons of results on how to get rid of freckles or how to hide them with makeup. If you’re lucky enough to have them, why would you want to hide them?
Freckles get a lot of bad press, which is as unfair as it is inaccurate. A simple Google search of “freckles” turns up tons of results on how to get rid of freckles or how to hide them behind makeup. If you’re among the lucky people who has a freckle or two (or ten), why in the world would you want to hide them?
Not convinced yet? Here are 10 reasons why we love freckles.

Freckles mean you’ve spent a day outside – or better yet, on holiday
It’s so important to wear sunscreen – but if you’re spending your entire day out in the sun in a totally exposed area – like a beautiful beach – even the most faithful of appliers and re-appliers will inevitably catch a few rays. And if you’re fortunate, they’ll manifest in a spray of fun freckles across your cheeks and nose.
Freckles are way better than a sunburn
If you do manage a full day out in the sun and afterwards, your biggest “problem” is freckles, then you are a lucky woman indeed.
The arrival of summer is always an event to celebrate. You know summer has arrived from the tell-tale signals: a midnight thunder and lightning storm, finding fresh watermelon for sale at the market, the first day it’s warm enough to wear sandals out – and of course, the appearance of your first freckle.
Freckles are harmless to your health
If you’re prone to freckles, it probably does mean you’re on the fairer side of things (although all skin types can develop freckles), and having fair skin does put you at greater risk of health problems like skin cancer. But freckles themselves aren’t any indication of disease. If you do notice a strange-looking “freckle”, ask your dermatologist as it could be another problem.
Freckles are in your genes
If you have freckles, there’s a good chance one or both of your parents have them, too. So be proud of your genetic inheritance, and don’t forget to thank Mom next Mother’s Day or Dad next’s Father’s Day.
You are rare
Although freckles aren’t limited exclusively to fair-skinned redheads, it is fair to say that our red-headed friends get the lion’s share of freckles – and they only make up 4-5 percent of the total world population. So if you not only have freckles but you’re also a natural redhead, then you’re pretty special, indeed. A ruby in the ruff.
It may be the only melanin you have, so cherish it
Freckles develop after exposure to the sun. The sun’s ultraviolet radiation triggers the skin’s melanocytes to make more melanin, which results in freckles. If you have freckles, there’s a good chance you’re also very fair-skinned and thus not blessed with much melanin – so enjoy what little you’ve got!
Freckles can make you look younger
Freckles are most common before puberty, which is probably part of the reason we tend to associate freckles with youth.
Freckles create a natural look, require less makeup
When you have a face full of freckles, you already stand out in a crowd. Some people spend money on bold lipstick or dark eye shadow palettes – you already have an eye-catching feature, and it’s au naturel.
Freckles are beautiful
Some of the world’s most beautiful people also enjoy flaunting their freckles, so feel free to do the same.
This is a good tip especially to those new to the
blogosphere. Brief but very accurate information… Many thanks for sharing this one.
A must read post!
Thank you so much Tamera. :)
I love this article, I hated my freckles when I was a child and wanted to cover them up but now I love them! As my Grandad used to say, ‘A face without freckles is light the sky without stars’.
What a lovely saying Lindsay! I am sure your freckles are lovely and make you unique!
Ok. I’m 50 years old, brunette (covered with blue hair dye), with hazel eyes. I’ve had freckles forever, but honestly forget sometimes. I really haven’t paid attention to whether or not other people have them. Tonight, for whatever reason, I thought about it and Googled. This is the first thing that showed up. I’m rare?? Fascinating!! I’m very fond of the statement that we don’t have to wear much makeup!! Yeessssss!! What a great excuse!! Thank you for teaching this “old dog” new tricks!! Well, at least helped me learn something new. Congrats to all my fellow frecklees!!
Hi Altaira! You are most welcome and celebrate your uniqueness in style :)
I have a freckle or two on my eye lid like not inside my eye, on the eyelid. But the rest of my face has a medium amount of freckles so we good.
Quirky and unique! Great to hear Rylee :)
Love this!!! I was just complaining about my freckles today
Aww we hope you found a new found love for your freckles Lois :)
I hated my freckles, I thought they made me ugly and they made look like I’m 5! (I’m 12) I even tried to cover them with makeup, but I honestly love them now! and neither my mom nor dad have freckles! and I’m not a redhead! (blonde) I’m honestly really lucky and happy to have them, Thanks UwU
Hi Kayley, thank you for the positive feedback, we really appreciate it! :)
I have freckles too. I’m half Native American and half scottish. I used to hate them but now I love them.

Dear Lupita, we are glad to restore your love in your unique self! Embrace you freckles as much as we love them :)
I have had freckles on my nose and cheeks since I can remember and it made me feel odd. It was so hurtful when people tell me what to do to get rid of them. In my country, Ethiopia they have got dark complexion so most people haven’t got freckles, so i always stand out. And now, seeing tgis made me feel that i can relate to someone and it is so great. Thanks a lot
You are most welcome Lensa! Stay unique and beautiful :)
I have small and big bumpy freckles all over my body, but mainly my face. People have always said they ere jealous but, if I’m being completely honest I never knew why because i despise and hate them.
This makes me so much better and gave me at least one thing not to be self-conscious about, so thank you!
You are most welcome Lily and we hope this gives you the boost to embrace your uniqueness.
Heyaa!! I’m so glad after reading your article. I’m having freckles on one side of entire back, underarms and shoulders. In childhood, I was ashamed of wearing sleeveless clothes. Even my closest used to tell me that I’m having universe full of stars on my white skin.
After gone through your article, I am confident on my own skin.:-)
Dear Maria, we are so happy that you have found new confidence! Glad to hear that you like our post :)
I really struggle to go on holidays to sunny beach locations.
My partner has beautiful skin and only looks at the sun to get a golden tan..me however are covered in the ugliest freckles you could imagine.
I love the sun and the sea, but unfortunately they don’t love me.
I find I make excuses for not going to the beach for a swim with him as looking around & seeing so many beautiful beach bronzed bodies only makes me more self conscious and depressed.
I get so down about it I sometimes even think of leaving him so he can find someone else that he can look at with admiration instead of looking at ugly old me with loath.
Dear Carolyn I am so sorry you feel that way! Please don’t be so hard on yourself, I am 100% sure you partner adores you and your freckles and wouldn’t change anything about you! You would be surprised how many women would love having freckles and are drawing them on their faces. Wear those beautiful freckles with proud and please go swimming with your partner enjoying those moments together. Nothing is more appealing than a woman confident in her own skin. I genuinely hope you stop comparing yourself to others because at the end of the day your partner chose you, not someone with a perfect golden tan, didn’t he? Own it and have all the fun in the sun <3
I knew us redheads with freckles are special I definitely have them some people say you have so many freckles my reply back to them AND!!!!! I know now they jealous.
There is no such thing as too many freckles! Don’t listen to those people! The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in your skin! We love your confidence and your freckles :)
Thanks now I know that freckles can make a difference. I shall be thankful for them.
Hi Rhyia :) Glad to hear that! Take care <3
If always thought that it was bad to have freckles. Thanks, this article makes me fell special. Sometimes I think how a guy like me with black hair and red beard with freckles have a chance in life but this makes me feel special. Sometimes I really feel so ogly. People make fun of me for having two different colors.
Hi Carlos, thank you for sharing your experience! We’re glad to hear you’re embracing your freckles! Please don’t let other people’s opinions change the way you think about yourself. Don’t be shy, rock your freckles :)

Dear Amy, thank you for sharing! We’re glad to hear this article made you feel special about yourself and your freckles! We are in love with freckles and believe you should wear them proudly :) Kindest regards!
I can say as I’m soo lucky to have freckles. But really I’m suffering when someone ask me wat is on ur face
Hi there! Thanks for sharing! Please don’t let people’s nasty comments bring you down, they can be so rude sometimes. Some of them wish they had freckles, trust me! So wear your freckles proudly and stay confident in yourself :) Kindest regards <3
When I was in my teens I read in a medical textbook that most people don’t like their freckles but that they make you look younger. Ever since I read that, people if you do have them embrace that. Hope this helps some who don’t like theirs.
I truly find that as you get older, they do make you look younger.
Dear Linda, your comment is truly genuine and impressive. We agree that freckles are a special contribution to your personality and uniqueness. Just as you have stated, embracing them is the best solution to feeling great about yourself. Thank you for being encouraging to others! We want you to feel special for owning your freckles, not everybody has that chance. Kind regards :)
Anybody knows the meaning of having freckles in the middle of the chest, like a star constellation. I have them since I was born so the genetics are par of that! My son is a red hair but no freckles, I’m always curious.
Hello there, thank you for setting this interesting question! Well, we have to admit that we also wonder what it might mean. Stay tuned, the answer to the meaning behind it might be provided in our future, similar content. Until then, contact a dermatologist who might know a bit more about it! Best regards ;)
