To celebrate Earth Day, FOREO is profiling an amazing organization that’s working to save our seas.

In 2015, FOREO welcomed The SEA LIFE Trust, an ocean conservation charity, as a member of our Board of Ocean Conservation charity partners.

Since then, we’ve been proud to support The SEA LIFE Trust in their amazing work to rehabilitate and rescue sea turtles, as well as support their research investigating the best ways to protect the sea turtle population.

Green sea turtles play a crucial part in growing and maintaining the habitat of other marine species, as sea turtles graze on sea grass and prune the vegetation so it can spread across the sea floor. Without turtles, the grass doesn’t thrive and many types of fish, shellfish, and crustaceans would lose their homes, throwing the entire ecosystem off balance. Helping conserve our turtle population, in turn, helps safeguard other species as well.

One of the major threats to adult sea turtles is becoming tangled in fishing nets. This year, the SEA LIFE Trust are focusing on this issue by asking people to pledge to buy sustainably-caught seafood. They are also supporting research and practical projects around the world to help protect sea turtles from being accidentally caught during fishing activities.

Working with the organisation ProDelphinus, they have been testing the efficacy of using special LED lights

Working with ProDelphinus, they have been testing the efficacy of using special LED lights incorporated into the netting. Initial trials off the coast of Peru have seen over 50% decrease in sea turtle interactions rates with illuminated nets vs control nets!

FOREO has long been committed to ocean conservation and will donate all net proceeds from the sale of their Save the Sea Limited Edition LUNA™ mini 2 & LUNA™ play  products to its Board of Ocean Conservation charity partners, including the SEALIFE Trust.

If results go as we hope, our support could be helping to protect over 1,000 turtles from an untimely death in fishing nets over the next 2 years!
