Summer has finally arrived, and what better way to commemorate it than by soaking in the sun and listening to the soothing sounds of the waves? So dreamy! As you do so, bear in mind that no matter how beautiful the sun is and how well it tans you, it is still quite harmful, therefore, sun protection should most definitely be part of your routine

Here are some recommendations to help you understand sun protection better so you can enjoy your summer to the fullest while staying safe.

Wear a broad spectrum of SPF

Whether you are sunbathing on the beach or doing regular activities, you must always wear sunscreen. Choose a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Apply a generous amount to the most exposed and sensitive areas, not forgetting your neck and ears. Reapply it every 2 hours, especially if you plan to swim or sunbathe for an extended period of time during the day.

The higher the SPF, the better!

Any type of sun protection is beneficial, but the greater the level of protection, the better for your skin. Although SPF 15 provides some protection, SPF 30 is more preferred. If your skin is more delicate and prone to sunburn, SPF 50+ is your best choice. But don’t be fooled by the numbers next to SPF. A greater number does not indicate that you can expose yourself to more sunlight without reapplying. It simply means that it provides greater protection against UV radiation.

Avoid the sun during peak hours

According to scientists, the peak hours of the sun are between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., therefore, we should avoid overexposure to the sun during those hours. We should seek shade during these hours, and perhaps plan our activities for the morning or evening, as excessive sun exposure is harmful to our health.

Don’t forget sunglasses

During the summer, our eyes are just as vulnerable to the sun as our skin. When choosing your sunglasses, make sure they are polarized and that you select the correct lens color. Polarized glasses are made with chemicals that filter more light, and when selecting your lens, go for a more gray lens.

Stay hydrated

Certainly, this tip is the most frequently stated among all others concerning skin care. However, regular hydration is required to maintain healthy skin, especially during the summer. Drinking plenty of water helps hydrate the skin from within, keeping it elastic and radiant. Most importantly, it reduces sun damage!

After sun care

As much as we enjoy sunbathing, nothing is more exhausting and painful than getting sunburned at the end of the day. Your days of worry are over because we have the therapy for you! Don’t forget to prioritize your skin’s health and protect it from the sun’s damaging rays as you begin your summer adventures. Sunscreen should be your best buddy, providing broad-spectrum UVA and UVB ray protection. Reapply every two hours, especially if you’re swimming or tanning.

Seek shade from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and consider scheduling your activities for the cooler morning or evening hours.

Don’t forget to protect your eyes as well as your skin! Polarized sunglasses with gray lenses will provide the finest glare protection. Staying hydrated is also essential for maintaining healthy skin. Keep your skin moisturized and glowing by drinking plenty of water. Take care!
